50 Years Suzuki in NZ Dinner is an opportunity to gather together and mark this milestone in New Zealand motorcycling history. The dinner is at the Kingsgate Hotel-The Avenue with pre-dinner drinks from 6.00pm and dinner at 7.00pm. A display of approx 25 iconic Suzuki models will be in the dining area for guests to enjoy.
After dinner speakers are local businessman John Bullock who worked with Eric Cheney in the United Kingdom and built the first Cheney Suzuki Motocross machine for Suzuki GB and rode the machine in a few events, plus Rod Coleman. Rod Coleman secured the NZ Suzuki franchise in late 1959 from an import/export agent in Tokyo and will cover both the difficult early years, and huge success the company enjoyed during the post 1972 era.
North Island Classic & Twinshock Scramble Championship will be held on the Sunday 7th at the Coleman’s Track at Kildare, the former Bob Coleman property on the outskirts of Wanganui. Special guest for the day is Peter Ploen - NZ & Australian motocross champion.
There will be a special ‘Cheney Display’ featuring both Suzuki, BSA & Triumph Cheney mounts built by Eric and his ‘Kiwi team’ at Cheney, plus a British Bike Dirt Day display of machines from the past, and many examples of Suzuki and other Japanese and European mounts will both be on display and in action, at this historic venue.
